How to write a game review

To write review you must first acknowledge the game or product. So that would be in the first paragraph, adding on to the first paragraph explain what the game is about so the person will want to try it out or at least becomes interested in what you are writing about. Along with acknowledging the game or product and explaining the game, attempt to also explain the story or character played in the game, or the history behind it, examples: is it a series, is the game an old idea turned modern, and the list keeps going.

The next paragraph should address the difficulties, such as enemies or different modes. These things could be the tempo, bullets, anything that comes to you mind about what makes the game difficult goes here. You should also explain the enemies, how they attack, are they small, colossus, agile? Maybe, explain a few of the bosses or more difficult parts of the game.

The third paragraph, should contain the gameplay. ''Gameplay includes all player experiences during the interaction with game'' is the beginning of an interesting Wiki article addressing the importance of gameplay and the history of the term. This ''Gameplay'' paragraph should contain things from how you felt during the game, was it action filled, frantic, saddening? So really let your voice be heard in this paragraph, about how you feel about the game. Remember, there is no correct or incorrect answer for this paragraph, it how you feel towards the game!

The next paragraph should contain your opinion on the graphics and sound. First explain what the graphics look like, 8-bit, 16-bit, beautiful? If you can, compare the graphics to another popular game that a good majority of people know of, and just in case leave a link or photo of the game your comparing it to. Continuing onto sound. When you describing the sound, try to imagine you are where the sound is, is it calming, heart-racing?

After the sound/graphics paragraph, move onto explaining the controls. Are the controls simple and easy for everyone to use? Can you convert the controls to different keys or buttons? Ask yourself if the controls were easy to master, explain why, or why not, and talk about what could the creator have changed to make them more to your liking, or others.

In this paragraph, talk about the difficulty ramp. The difficulty ramp is how quickly the game becomes harder. The difficulty ramp could be very steady or it could dramatically rise. Usually the game would not be considered good if the difficulty ramp is always abruptly rising. So explain the ramp in you game and talk about if it was too sharp, too slow or was it just perfect?

Next to last, talk about replay-ability. Replay-ability is basically if you would want to go back and beat this game again. Obviously, most of us aren't just going to go back and play a game for nothing after beating it, is there something that encourages you to beat it again, a few examples would be: Trying to set a new highscore, playing as a different class, finding hidden areas, achievements/trophies, and the list keeps on rolling.

Finally, explain your opinion on the game. Was it original, funny, terrific? Remember to use facts from your earlier paragraphs explaining your reasoning. In the end, leave a link for the person to check out the game or to play!
