The importance of adjectives

Adjectives can be the difference between a Great writer and an O.K one. Adjectives can easily describe what a place, around the main charactor looks like, giving you a picture in your head. Here's an example:

''The pass is covered with snow.''

This sentence gives you little information about what is surrounding the character, obviously there is the pass and the snow, but what could we add to this sentence to make it better? Let's see here...

''The icy cold pass is blanketed in snow''

This sentence is already sounding better! By changing covered to blanketed we are making our writing more interesting. Now, that we have added ''icy'' to the sentence it gives you an idea how to character feels. Let's see if we can make this even better!

''The icy cold pass lies under a perpetual blanket of snow''

The word perpetual make the sentence sound better and adds more detail about the surroundings, telling you that this might be a place such as Alaska. Can we make this better? Every sentence can be written better!

''The icy cold pass lies under a perpetual blanket of snow, that shines a ghostly silver in the moonlight''

Now we have added a time of day and described the look of the snow against the moon. Let's say we add or leave hint that it's a full moon to that sentence. We can then add ''as the wolves howled across the valley''.

''The icy cold pass lies under a perpetual blanket of snow, that shines a ghostly silver in the full moonlight as the sly wolves howled to each other''.

As you can see adjectives can add a lot of emotion or thought into your writing, making it more interesting, you got to admit the first sentence was lame! Anyways, I hope you have learned or at least reviewed something about adjectives today!
